Historical noteLoyal Till Death: Indians and the North West Rebellion was co-authored with Professor Blair Stonechild, head of Indigenous Studies at the First Nations University of Canada. The book was praised for its sensitivity in telling the stories of Indians during this turbulent time. It won a 1997 Saskatchewan Book Award for First Peoples Publishing and was a finalist for the Governor Generals Literary Award for non-fiction. Crowfoot (ca. 1830 - 25 April 1890) or Isapo-Muxika (Blackfoot Issapóómahksika, "Crow-big-foot" was a chief of the Siksika First Nation. Though he was well respected for his bravery, Crowfoot refused to join the Northwest Rebellion of 1885, believing it to be a lost cause. In 1886, Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald invited Crowfoot to Ottawa. Crowfoot went, as did Three Bulls and Red Crow, but soon fell ill and had to return from Ottawa.
