Scope and contentThis file consists of a presentation by Wally McKay focusing on policing by First Nations men and women on reserves. McKay describes traditional Aboriginal policing models being based on peacemaking and peacekeeping. McKay believes that "resources are available for mediation, victim-status and orientation, restitution and reparation, alternatives to custody, meaningful sanctions that have real impact within the community, eventual reintegration, peace and community harmony." Currently there are 322 First Nations Constables in Ontario and these women and men are a part of the healing as with peace comes the restoration of social harmony. A question-and-answer session with the Commissioners follows the presentation.
