| Scope and content | File contains a presentation by Bill Nothing and Isaac Beaulieu of the Northern Nishnawbe Education Council. Nothing, Executive Director of the Council, discusses his work with the people of the Nishnawbe-Aski area for the past twenty years. It expresses his personal views as well as those of the Education Council. Topics addressed include self-government negotiations, Aboriginal and Treaty rights, the Memorandum on Understanding between First Nations and the Ontario and Canadian governments, land and education issues, education funding, health and education, eyesight problems, and a series of policy reccomendations related to these concerns for the Commission. Isaac Beaulieu presents on educational concerns related to the development of Aboriginal language curriculums, the Ojibway-Cree culture, and self-governance, Beaulieu makes a variety of recommendations to this effect. Following the presentations the assembled Commissioners discuss some of the issues raised with the two presenters. | |
