Chairperson Murray Sinclair gives a brief introduction, followed by a prayer delivered by Elder Ernie Benedict. Commissioner Erasmus welcomes the participants to this sitting and explains its purpose as a round table on justice system issues. Commissioner Dussault delivers an address (partially in English, partially in French) on justice issues that will be examined. Commissioner Wilson discusses the relatively high incarceration rate across Canada as a whole, and to explain the purpose of the round table.
