Scope and contentFile contains a presentation by Irene Tiktaalaaq and Joan Scottie of the Concerned Citizens of Baker Lake. Tiktaalaq discusses unemployment and poverty amongst the people of Baker Lake, and her efforts with others to establish a community food bank without any government assistance to alleviate these problems. She concludes by reccomending that the government raise welfare and pension levels to the amount that northerners do not run out of food money before the end of the month. Joan Scottie presents both on the justice system and its ineffectiveness in Baker Lake (reccomending an Inuit community based approach), and then discussing the issue of uranium mining and why she and the Keewatin Inuit Association are opposed to it, as well as the efforts they have taken to educate the public. Following the presentation is a discussion between the two presenters and the assembled Commissioners on the issues raised.
