Scope and contentFile contains a presentation by Mireille Sioui, Michel Gros Louis (Tare Dan Deh), and Annette Vincent (Wat Ron Yon Non Nen) of the Akiawenrak Long House. The three deliver a presenation discussing the structure of the Long House, its place in Huron society, its spiritual and cultural significance. A dispute is mentioned between the Huron-Wendat and the City of Lorrettville over the territory on which the longhouse is. Also discussed are the legacy of historical colonization, missionaries, the enfranchisement of a Huron community in Michigan and a request that they be given their rights back, and other matters of importance to the Huron people. Self-governance, the Indian Act, and the Charter of rights are also discussed as they pertain to the Huron nation.
