Scope and contentFile contains a presentation by Tobique Women's Group. The group's representatives who include Caroline Innis, Karen Perley, Marina Moulton, and Bet-te Paul make a series of recommendations to the Commission which they think will improve the lives and representation of Aboriginal women across Canada. These include that the Charter of Rights and Freedoms apply until an accountable method of self-governance is in place, that the justice system be wholly reformed to reflect Aboriginal cultural concerns, that the Canadian Human Rights Act be amended so that the Indian Act fall under its jurisdiction, that funding be made available to Aboriginal women's groups on a permanent basis, and that the Government of Canada ensure that institutions that protect rights are made accessible to Aboriginal people. Commissioners Erasmus and Robinson discuss some of these recommendations and concerns with the presenters.
