Scope and contentFile contains multiple presentations on the topic of Anicinabe self-governance. The first presentation is by Chief Rod Bushie, Hollow Water Indian Band (pgs 71-75). Bushie discusses his views on Anicinabe self-governance: the need for it to be community based, and the need for a healthy community in order for it to be effective. Bushie emphasizes the importance of the Community Holistic Circle Healing program to the process of healing the community to prepare it for self-governance. The next presentation is by Chief Jerry Fontaine of the Sagkeeng First Nation (pgs 75-78). Chief Fontaine discusses some of his ideas for Anicinabe self-governance, notably that it must be based on the traditional seven teachings of Anicinabe society. Fontaine also argues that self-governance must also involve the community grassroots and not just its council. The next presentation is by Elmer Courchene (78-82), and deals with his view that the reclamation of Aboriginal peoples rightful resources is the first step towards self-governance.
