Scope and contentFile contains a presentation by the Region of Nunavik Chairman Eli Weetaluktuk and Member Simeonie Nalukturak. Weetaluktuk discusses Inuit self-government, the Canadian Constitution, the history of the Quebec Inuit's movement towards self-government, justice issues, employment and job training, and economic development. Simeonie Nalukturak finishes the presentation by discussing the three main objectives of the Nunavik (Inuit region of northern Quebec) self-governance: the need for democracy and accountability, the need for a public government in Nunavik representing the non-Inuit minority as well as the Inuit majority, the need for Nunavik to constitute a territorial government. Nalukturak then goes on to discuss negotiations with the provincial government of Quebec on autonomy for Nunavik, and what that has achieved so far. Following the presentation Commissioner Rene Dussault makes some laudatory comments on it.
