Scope and contentFile contains remarks by Al Ducharme, Metis History Teacher. Ducharme introduces a series of student presenters from his class. Mary Nowie presents on Aboriginal languages and their importance to cultural identity. Norma Mercredi presents on education funding and the need for more, especially for Metis people. Jessie Sylvester presents on economic issues faced by northern families. Candice Reese presents on the importance of looking to the future and celebrating positive Aboriginal achievements and culture. Suzy Carriere and Walter Park present on the justice system and Aboriginal peoples overrepresentation in prison, as well as the racism associated with it. Don Michelle and Bruce MacKenzie present on the importance of land to Aboriginal people and the neccessity of having a land base. Following the presentations Ducharme makes remarks on his personal background, and the history of the Metis people in Canada. In closing, Commissioner Chartrand thanks the presenters and refers Ducharme to his own legal history of the Metis people.
