Scope and contentFile contains a photocopy of M. Giraud's article "Note on the Half-Breed Problem in Manitoba," taken from The Canadian Journal of Economics and Political Science 3(4) (November, 1937): pp. 541-549. It was of interest to Paul Chartrand, head of the Native Studies Department at the University of Manitoba who makes fun of the incredibly racist tone of the article on a one sheet poster he perhaps kept on the door of his office. Giraud argues that the Metis are incapable of imitating with the superior farming methods of their Anglo-Saxon neighbours, and unable to integrate into reserve communities because of racial prejudice.
