Curator's note | Employers use versions of time clocks to record the arrival and departure of employees from the workplace and to determine the number of hours worked for payroll purposes. In the most common early version employees would insert or punch a flat card into the clock device ,which would then print the date and time. More common now is the use of magnetic swipe cards used in conjunction with employee IDs |
