Curator's note | Days and events to recognize and honour the contributions of labour have long been held by union organizations in Canada. In 1894 the federal parliament enacted Labour Day as an official statutory holiday. Some of the earlier observances were held in April, June or July. It is now celebrated in Canada on the first Monday of September. |
