- 1936 In one editorial, reacting to the news that Italy had sent troops into Ethiopia, Tooth noted that while "our sympathies, there is no doubt, lie with the weaker nation," he suggested "This mother England of ours will...call upon us to prevent Italy from committing the brutal act which she, mother England, has committed so often in the past in that same Africa, in China, in Crimea and in other sections of the globe....This quarrel is not Canada's...let Canada save her youth to reconstruct the world when Europe has blown it to bits."
