Murray was also anxious to identify the University as an independent institution. “I noticed in one
of the plans that the carving showed the provincial coat of arms. The University has adopted a
seal with a coat of arms....I think it would be well to have the University coat of arms shown and
if a choice has to be made between the University and the provincial would it not be better to take
the University?” Murray felt the issue important enough to mention at least twice, in letters in
March and November 1910 to Brown.
