| Scope and content | Monotone postcard of Thérèse von Brunsvik (1775-1861), a student of Ludwig van Beethoven. Thérèse was the dedicatee for his Piano Sonata No. 24 in F major, Opus 78, nicknamed "A Thérèse", and some scholars have speculated she may have been the "Elise" for whom the piece Für Elise was composed (she having been the owner of the original score). She is also among the most plausible candidates for Beethoven's "Unsterbliche Geliebte" ("Immortal Beloved"). Title from front of postcard. | |
