Curator's note | Saskatoon-based The Western Producer advertises itself as Canada's largest agricultural newspaper. When the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool was established in 1924, the farmer-oriented journal The Progressive sought it out as its official sponsor and changed its name to the Western Producer. In the early 1930s the Pool took over publication of the newspaper and operated it until 2002 when it was sold along with other Pool assets. |
