Curator's note | Incorporated in 1919, Canadian National Railways was formed from the merger of several older and financially troubled rail lines including the Canadian Northern and the Grand Trunk Pacific. It was one of Canada's first crown corporations and operated the nation's most extensive railway system. Like its competitor Canadian Pacific Railways it owned hotels and promoted tourism as a means of increasing passenger traffic. |
