Curator's note | Postage meters were once common in offices which made frequent use of the postal system. The meter was used to record and frank outgoing mail. Franking was the application of evidence to the envelope that appropriate postage had been prepaid by the sender. The meter mark acted as a stamp, cancellation mark and postmark. |
